We all know that the end goal of having braces is to get great-looking teeth. But during the orthodontic treatment, you need to be willing to do the work necessary to keep your teeth healthy. Otherwise, when your braces come off, you’ll end up with less-than-healthy teeth.
Here at Straight Smile in College Park, Maryland, we’re dedicated to helping you through the orthodontic process as smoothly as possible. Part of that is helping you care for your teeth while you’re wearing braces.
Let’s look at a few things Dr. Donald Liang and Dr. Christopher Liang recommend for caring for your teeth with braces.
Keep braces in good condition
There’s a reason we advise you to avoid sticky foods while wearing braces – they easily damage the hardware on your teeth. Part of having healthy teeth while you’re wearing braces revolves around keeping your braces in tip-top shape. While you can’t do everything to keep them perfect – that’s what we do here in the office – you can do a lot to make sure that your braces aren’t hindering your tooth health.
Brush after eating
The biggest thing you can do to care for your teeth when wearing braces is to brush after every meal. That seems like a lot of work, but it’s not. Just a quick brush to get rid of the food trapped in your teeth, and you’re good to go!
Caring for your teeth while wearing braces isn’t as difficult as it may seem at first. If you have any other questions, please contact us at 301-841-9348 today.
